A Voice in the Wilderness |
![]() The Alpha Course:
In many VW writings we have sometimes spoken of watered-down Bible
studies where people sit around asking each other, "what do you think
this means?" or "what does this mean to you?" or "how does this make
you feel?" This phenomenon was first noticed by this writer during
college back in the late 60's and early 70's in groups such as IVCF and
Campus Crusade. Church college groups tended to run their Bible
"studies" in this manner, as well. These things have been mentioned in
VW writings as being IN CONTRAST TO Biblical instruction. In these
studies, if a Believer would attempt to bring the focus back to God's
Word and It's ABSOLUTES of "Thus says the Lord" such a person was disdained, and
labeled "judgmental" by the preponderance of such groups.
In addition, when "music" was my thing, I performed for a "women's
aglow" type function once years ago, where I was specifically
instructed to NOT SHARE CHRIST in any way, during the course of my
presentation. The reason? Because this function was inviting
non-Believers, and the function's purpose was for "evangelism."
Evangelism WITHOUT Christ????? (!!)
These attitudes can be found as the CORE and SUBSTANCE of the
more-recently acclaimed and quickly growing "Alpha Course." The
following links provide rather in-depth analyses of this program:
