Re: It is Finished
When Christ...cried out triumphantly, "It is finished" (John
19:30)....The saving work was fulfilled, completed....All who are
recipients of that salvation are granted everything pertaining to life
and godliness through the true knowledge of Christ (2Pet1:3)....We are
complete in Christ (Col2:10). What can anyone add to that?
But a widespread lack of confidence in Christ's sufficiency is
threatening the contemporary church. Too many Christians have tacitly
acquiesced to the notion that our riches in Christ...simply are not
adequate to meet people's real needs....
The failure of modern Christians to understand and appropriate the
riches of Christ has opened the door to all kinds of aberrant
influences. Bad doctrine, legalism, libertinism, humanism, and
secularization-to name a few-are eroding the foundations of the
Christian faith. --John MacArthur
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward
us...in Him you also trusted...you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of
promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance. (Eph1:7-8,13)
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with
Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no
more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He
died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives
to God. (Rom 6:8-10)
Clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not
with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone
but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart. And we have such trust
through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to
think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from
God, (2 Cor 3:3-5)
